Enter your last day and how the job ended. The calculator applies the Iowa deadline, tells you how many days late the payment is, and estimates the possible late-pay penalty. It runs in your browser — nothing is sent to us.
The deadline is the statutory maximum in Iowa: When employment is terminated, all wages earned up to that time must be paid not later than the next regular payday for the pay period in which the wages were earned (Iowa Code § 91A.4). Resignation follows the same rule: wages earned are due by the next regular payday for that pay period. The penalty estimate uses Iowa Code § 91A.8: liquidated damages equal to five percent of the unpaid wages for each day the wages remain unpaid, excluding Sundays, legal holidays and the first seven days after the regular payday — capped at the amount of the unpaid wages themselves.
This is an estimate, not a legal determination. Penalty provisions usually depend on the employer acting wilfully, and a court or agency decides the final number. Use the result to decide whether to send a demand, not as a promise of what you will collect.
